Suicide and Responsibility of Parents
November 22nd, 2008 by fatbastardA 19 year old Florida college student recently committed suicide. Not a very uncommon thing in and of itself. But, this tortured teen took matters a step further and decided to share his death with the world via web cam. He took an overdose of antidepressants and then went to sleep on his father’s bed as a web cam broadcast his own pathetic end to the world. I am not a big fan of people who commit suicide to begin with. Life is tough. Deal with it and get over yourself. In the end you will be a stronger person and have valuable experiences to share with future generations. Too many people are coddled and allowed to be weak in tough times. It is killing our society by turning us all into a nation of whining pussies. This kid was no different. Apparently he had threatened to kill himself several times before, but either didn’t do it or simply failed.
According to a CNN article: Officials: Teen commits suicide on webcam as others watch “Some of those watching urged him to take more drugs while others debated whether he had taken enough to kill himself.” I could so see myself as one of those people. As horrific a thought as that is. I could trully see myself telling him he didn’t take enough to get the job done. All the while watching and wondering if he actually just offed himself or this was just another attention getting gimmick in a long line of over sensationalized gimmicks that seem to happen on a regular basis anymore. In the end. It was real and now some 19 year old kid who needed a kick in the ass and someone to tell him to get his shit together and toughen up, is dead. The person who should have given him a kick in the ass and toughened him up, his dad, is bitching about how the Internet needs more regulation. Father appalled by virtual audience to son’s death.
Yeah, thats it. Your son OD’d and the rest of the world needs to be regulated more because you weren’t there to save him from doing it. I think it is very unfortunate the kid killed himself.. and lived a life that sucked so bad he would end it that way.. I think it equally sucks for the people who watched that.. and egged him on thinking it was a hoax.. they have to spend the rest of their lives knowing they could have maybe helped the kid.. and saved him from doing that.. I think it sucks even more that now that the dad realized he failed.. he wants to blame everyone else for his son’s death.. and not take a deep look at his own failings as a father.. and try to understand why it really happened.
Instead of trying to blame everyone else, sit back for a few days and really, REALLY, take a good long look at yourself and your life with your son. Don’t blame the people that watched it happen. After several previous threats, they were faced with the boy who cried wolf, or in the case suicide.
