I voted for Barack Obama. For the first time ever I put political signs out around my house during the 2008 election season in support of Obama/Biden. I argued endlessly about why people should vote for Obama. I argued with my mother, my father in law, and others. I believed in the audacity of hope and the ideas he was tossing around. For the most part I still do. This post is going to be a two parter… the first part has to do with the economy, the stimulus, unemployment and some comments the president and vice president made recently. The second part won’t be so nice….

Vice President Biden, In a recent interview on ABC’s “This Week” said the Obama administration “misread how bad the economy was”.

In an interview later in the week, President Obama tried to contrast Biden’s statement by saying “We haven’t always gotten the numbers right, but I think the general overview is right,” further adding “We went through an economic tsunami that was far worse than anything we have gone through since the Great Depression, and even early on I think we did not see the full magnitude of what was going to happen.”

So, you haven’t always gotten the numbers right.. and early on you did not see the full magnitude of what was going to happen… hmm… sounds to me like you misread it. Doesn’t matter what you try to cover a pile of shit up with, its still going to smell like a pile of shit. Put whatever spin you want on things, but by your own admission, you didn’t get this right. The one big issue you faced getting into office, the one issue you used to catapult yourself past John McCain was the economy. You surrounded yourself with people who were supposed to be the best of the best. People who were supposed to understand this stuff inside and out. You told the American people that you heard them. That you understood them. You used the economic crisis to bail out big banks and big industry. While unemployment numbers continue to climb, banks and wall street firms that were bailed out are starting to report huge profits.

Im not a financial expert. So, I trusted you, I believed that things you were doing were right for this country. I believed you had your head on straight and knew what needed to be done and you were doing it. But, when I read statements like the ones you and VP Biden made. I have to scratch my head and wonder if you aren’t just like the rest. The biggest issue you faced was and still is our economy. The one and only thing you had to get right was and is our economy. Yet, you got some of the numbers wrong and did not see the full magnitude of what was going to happen? Fuck You!

I don’t expect perfection in all things. I didn’t think it would be the perfect response. I don’t think of you as the second coming of Christ. I was more than happy to vote for you simply to not have a dumb fucking idiot running our country anymore. But now I’m starting to wonder if your knowledge is not being moderated enough because of your lack of experience. Im starting to wonder if the people you surrounded yourself with are too good at what they do and are providing you with the wrong advice in order to benefit the wrong people… See with that line of thinking im still giving you the benefit of the doubt. That won’t last forever.

One of my biggest concerns about voting for you in the first place was who you would be surrounding yourself with if you won the election. The people our previous president surrounded himself with, led us into two wars and nearly destroyed the financial system of this country. I thought you were smart enough to pick the right people with the right experience to compliment your knowledge. Maybe you have and I’m just not seeing things clearly. But, the choices you are making, the things you are doing, aren’t a whole lot different than what the last guy did and I didn’t agree with those things.

So I say this with all sincerity… Dear Mr. President. Wake the fuck up! Get your head out of your ass and start doing things that will help the people of this country. Get the numbers right and fix this shit. Its great to turn on the tv and see everyone talk about how the economy is recovering because the stock market just broke through 9000. What are they going to be saying when it bottoms out at 6500 in a few weeks because there is no real ground beneath it? Oil is topping $70 a barrel again. Have any idea what is going to happen when it hits $80? People are going to start getting pissed again. We aren’t going to deal with it very well, either. Winter is right around the corner. If I have to struggle to heat my home and fill my car with gas, guess what im going to be doing? Im going to be telling my credit card companies to take a flying fucking leap and enjoy the great profits they have been seeing off the backs of the American taxpayers. I won’t be alone. Maybe then you can give the banks another couple of trillion dollars so they can have more record profits to hire lawyers and come after all of us folks who bailed them out because we were faced with the choice of continuing to pay our over inflated debt or heating our homes and feeding our families. Things are not getting better Mr. President. Us little people that got you elected are still struggling and you need to fix this mess because thats why you were elected. So, stop taking trips to New York with your wife, stop taking the kids to Africa to explore their roots and start getting the numbers right!
