Be sure you don’t trip over the green shoots!
June 9th, 2009 by TerseAll I keep hearing about on the news is how things are getting better with our economy. They site some manipulated figures to support their claims like, Oh… only 350,000 people filed for unemployment last month. Or housing sales are up 1000 over the past month, but only after they downgraded last months numbers by 5000. Or my absolute favorite is that the dow is up over 2000 points since it’s low a few months back.
But what I’m really seeing is a lot of market manipulation while they tell all the sheep everything is going to be ok. Time to head to the mall and spend whatever money you have left because the economy is on the rebound!
Let me let you in on a little secret. It’s complete bullshit. The people on the news channels you all love to watch, and this includes Fox news, are PAID to tell you want to think. The ex beauty queens and make up covered dumb bells they put next to them are about as in tune with the economy as a blade of grass. They read words off a teleprompter with a smile on their faces and the average american eats it up and accepts it as fact.
The housing crisis is just the beginning of the real estate collapse. There’s a lot of empty retail space right now, and it’s only going to get worse. Let’s look at the chrysler fiasco as an example. You’re a car dealer. You have an expensive building with an expensive mortgage. Suddenly the company you get your product from, cuts you off. Leaves you stuck with whatever inventory you have and says don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Don’t forget, these dealers not only had millions of dollars in car inventory, but also millions in parts so they could service those cars. Something they are now forbidden to do.
So where does that leave them? Laying off all their employees, selling cars at discount prices and praying someone else will be willing to buy their parts inventory off them, most likely at a huge discount. Now suddenly there’s this huge empty building. Who’s going to move in there? No one.
Where I live, we had a Kmart, and and Ames and tons of grocery stores. Then walmart moved in. Now the Kmart is a decaying, empty building. After that, Ames went out of business and that building is a decaying, empty building. Not bad enough, copper theives broke into both buildings and ripped out all the plumbing. Nice. If you drive down the main roads in most towns around here, you will see building after building… empty. There’s nothing that can survive in there. Rent is so high and profits are so low, it doesn’t even pay to try to open a new business.
So when you are watching cnbc and they are telling you that walmart stock is up… just remember that there are now empty buildings everywhere that once held businesses that failed due to their competition.
Now don’t misunderstand me, I’m not bashing walmart in any way… I’m pointing out that there’s a ton of fallow retail space and someone is left holding the empty mortgage bag there. Bet you don’t see stories about that on Fox. All they are talking about is how things are getting better.
Now if you look at the dow, and commodities you would certainly think that things are improving. Stocks are up, precious metals are up, soybeans are up.. and especially oil is up. That’s double what it was a few months ago. The funniest thing is that when I talk to my fox watching father, he tells me oil is up because of “supply and demand”. You know. The same line of horse shit they fed us when it was $4 a gallon. Except there’s one major difference now, there’s over 100 million barrels of oil stored in tankers floating around in the ocean waiting for somewhere to go, because no one is buying it. So why is the price going sky high? Market manipulation.
See, they get the people on tv to tell you that better times are ahead. Get your money in now so you don’t miss the boat, but it seems like it’s the average guy who always left holding the empty bag when the stocks tank and oil goes back down to $35 a barrel. How many people do you think bought into oil at $140 when all the talking heads on tv were saying it was going to go all the way to $200? I’m sure it wasn’t a wall street fat cat who cried in his cornflakes when it dumped all $105 off it’s value. It was the guy foolish enough to listen to the “experts” telling them to get in now so they can be rich tomorrow.
You heard it here first folks. If you have money in stocks, sell. There is a new bottom coming and there’s not going to be any warning. One day you’re going to watch your retirement savings vanish and they aren’t going to come back.
So what should you do you ask? If I were you, I’d be stock piling food, buying real coinage. Silver, gold, copper. When our economy implodes, you’re going to be happy to have some canned soup in the basement to live on.
The government just pumped trillions of dollars into our economy. That can only lead to one end… hyper inflation. Add to that the fact that we now have an unemployment rate over 10% and growing every month and things are going to get ugly in the near future. It’s almost as if the people with money are trying to make this happen. They want the economy to implode. Why? I really don’t know. To do away with the US dollar as the reserve currency of the world might be one reason. But I’m no financial expert and I’ve got no rich, powerful friends to warn me. I just read a lot of information and use that to reach my own conclusions. Something you should also do.
Don’t take my word for it, go out and do some research for yourself. But if you’ve got money in the bank, make sure you have enough working capital to survive a couple months without having access to that bank held money. When the collapse comes, they aren’t going to be open from 9-4 every weekday, they are going to be closed.
The FDIC isn’t going to save your bank account either. They are already saying they are underfunded. So if banks collapse on a grand scale, there isn’t going to be any money to hand out. It’s going to be every man for himself.
Prepare yourself. The only person that can help you is YOU. Unless you want to stand in a bread line every other day for a stale slice of bread, take steps to protect yourself now.
